Breaking News:  Fee Increases for Consular Services to Take Effect June 4, 2010

Late yesterday the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs issued a rule which will increase fees for nonimmigrant visa and border crossing card application processing.

Currently all nonimmigrant visa applications submitted at U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide incur a visa processing fee of $131 USD.  Effective June 4, 2010, consular visa processing fees will increase as follows:

  • Most non-petition-based applications (such as B-1/2 tourist visas and F-1 student visas) will increase to $140;
  • Most petition-based visas (such as H-1B and L-1) will increase to $150; and
  • E visa adjudication/ issuance will increase to $390.  Note that the $390 fee applies to all E visas, including E-1 treaty trader, E-2 treaty investor and E-3 Australian professional visas.

It is not yet known whether a different fee will apply to visa applications by dependent family members.
